I just found out that I or anyone can post without registering on this forum. To register with ProBoards is easy anyway but apparently that is not required for posting.

I just found out that I or anyone can post without registering on this forum. To register with ProBoards is easy anyway but apparently that is not required for posting. Just FYI. If anyone registers with ProBoards to join onto this forum then they will NOT be put onto any mailing list for my campaign, and I do not believe that ProBoards sends out anything either except when one request for email notifications. The Administration here will still be able to modify or delete or even banish any member or our postings but otherwise the registration is under the control of ProBoards and not me. By registering the poster gets to edit their postings at any time, and each can get email notification and more. I do not want anyone to think that registration is some form of connecting with my political campaign because it is not. But we do still let anyone post without registering and hopefully that will not be changed since we want people to be welcome here and so far anyone can still have that extreme anonymity if they want. This forum is new and we have not yet worked out all the bugs and the mechanisms.

Yeah, but if you read the terms of service, you will see that you have to agree to receive promotional emails ( spam) from Proboards. So unless you set up some kind of junk email address that you only use for free sites like this that send you spam, I would advise not registering. I would have registered, but after I read that, I chose not to. BTW, James, if you also fully and carefully read the signup info on my Wordpress blog , you would have noticed that you could have checked the box that says to just sign up without creating a blog. So I will be turning that requirement back on to cut back on the 1 or 2 spam comments I get each day. Not a lot of spam, but it's still an irritation.

If you look at the top of that ProBoards link it is referring to those who register a new website / forum because they put advertisements on the forums which is why the forums are free here. And they still do not send spam to our email even if you create your own forum. Plus, the Internet is growing-up, and SPAM as it use to be is no longer true, because people got so angry about it that the SPAMMERS had to stop trashing people's emails. My own long time years old Yahoo email (JPCusickSr@Yahoo.com) gets very little SPAM, and what little it does get then I know why it is coming in because I have signed up for bulk email from certain places that I like. The only emails that I ever get from ProBoards is for the threads that I check the "Bookmark" requesting email notifications because I want email notifications. I do not care if you or anyone post here without registering, but I say with all due certainty that they will not start dumping unwanted SPAM into your email.

Sorry, JP, you are way, way uninformed and outright wrong about this. Where I work, 92% of the incoming mail to the mail servers is CAUGHT spam. Spam is very alive and well. Some servers are good at catching it before you see it but trust me, only about 10% of all email in 2009 was legitimate news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3-10249172-83.html and it has only gotten worse. Duh!

That link is about as misleading as you are acting paranoid. I understand that you are afraid of SPAM but it is not true and not real that registering here will get anyone SPAMMED. I see you doing as the Bible describes - in that you flee as from a falling leaf when no one is chasing you, Leviticus 26:36-38, as in hiding from the scary SPAM when there is no SPAM chasing you. And you are not to be using your job email anyway.
