This week I had some campaign ads published in local Newspapers and one copy of one ad is in the attachment below. I was at first intending to put my ad in the big Sunday edition of the Baltimore Sun, but they were so slow and nonproductive in qualifying my ad that I started searching other Maryland Newspapers and found that other smaller papers target more precise and even better audiences. So I put the B-Sun on hold and had my ad put into four (4) smaller Newspapers which still covered Baltimore and then PG County and on over to Washington D.C. so I am better pleased this way. The B-Sun is also so big of a paper that my small ad might never have even been seen or read, but in the smaller papers it seems more likely to make it count far more. Attachments:

Are you planning on doing any television advertising?

Are you planning on doing any television advertising? No TV for me. First it cost far too much, but TV ads are not really appropriate for a Senate campaign. Even Newspaper ads must be done delicately. The election process is a very mellow-dramatic event.

Maybe if you spray painted a highway overpass or two, you would get mentioned on TV without having to pay any money for it. :-)

Are you planning on doing any television advertising? I just got an invitation from ABC2 TV for us candidates to do a 5 minute interview with their News, but I am going to turn it down as too much effort for too little effect. ===================== And Thunderclapp has made me an online bumper sticker. See it linked here = J.P. Cusick for Senate???Woo hoo

What? Too much effort for too little effort? The actual wording was "effect" as effort producing effect. The TV station is not really asking to give me any coverage, so that if I were to win the election then they will have me on their film which will help them, while it will NOT help me or my campaign. So it would cost me time and money to drive up to Baltimore and spend most of a day for a five (5) minute clip where they will ask me a bunch of questions that I do not want to answer instead of giving me the time to explain the evils of the Child Support system. And even if they did give me the 5 minutes to explain the evil then it will only make the News in the event that I win the primary. I get things like this from newspapers where they want me (all the candidates) to fill out questionnaires but they are only going to print their endorsements, and we know that every News source is always going to rubber stamp the status quo so there is no incentive for us to participate. Some groups say up front that they will publish our answers and info so they are the ones that count. So it would be a lot of effort on my part with very little to no effect for my campaign.

Okay, if it wasn't a situation where everyone's 5 minutes was going to be broadcast for sure, then I understand you not wanting to take the trouble. If you were leaving yourself out of a broadcasted compilation of all the potential candidates, then I would think you'd be doing your campaign a disservice.

If you were leaving yourself out of a broadcasted compilation of all the potential candidates, then I would think you'd be doing your campaign a disservice. I think I must now say that I might do the interview if they would have come here to me instead of me having to travel to them. The fact is that running a campaign can become very expensive, and more expensive when it is a Statewide campaign. As like me traveling up to Baltimore is gas and time and got to dress the part, and either I stay in a Hotel or else drive back at whatever hour. And one day it is this and another day that, as in some group forum in Montgomery County one day and a next group in Annapolis on another day, and even Hagerstown and Eastern Maryland and they all want to do their interviews or their candidate forums in the same last month before the election date. So a candidate needs a lot of money and lots of free time and lots of energy and health just to do the basic campaigning even in a relatively small State like my Maryland. Just FYI.

Speaking for myself, this statement gives me the impression that if you were to get elected, you would only spend time addressing the child support issues and avoid addressing all other issues. Is addressing child support issues even in the bailiwick of a U.S. Senator? Are you going to be selective in performing your duties?
